All of our bike trainers are built on the same frame to provide maximum stability for everyone. Our trapezoidal base covers the most area (435 square inches) in the industry, making it the most stable. In addition, the frame is robotically welded to assure the trainer holds your bike level. Once your bike is in, our cone cups assure that your bike will never slip out of this trainer, no matter how hard you sprint. We design them to fit 99% of OEM skewers and there are other cones available to fit any skewer or axle nut; including track, BMX, and even SRAM Dual Drive systems. At the same time, our patented quick release lock allows easy and fast setup and removal.

Tired of riding downhill? The legs on our trainer adjust up and down to level the bike. By selecting one of the three available positions, the trainer can fit most 700c, 650c, 20", 24", 26", and 29" so that the bike is level. In most cases, it eliminates the need for a riser block. The Small Wheel Adapter is needed for tires less than 22" in diameter. When not in use, the legs fold flat against the frame for easy storage.

The roller, driven by your bike's tire, is connected to the impeller inside the sealed fluid chamber by a magnetic coupler. Twelve neodymium rare earth magnets, 6 per side, create a virtual drive shaft to spin the impeller inside the sealed fluid chamber.

Although the drive shaft has two parts, the magnetic coupler links the two parts and it spins as a single unit. The magnetic field is so strong; it can withstand the torque of suddenly accelerating the roller from 0 to 50 MPH with an electric motor. These magnets are not used for resistance, but only to couple motion across the leak-free barrier. Because there is no moving or rotating part penetrating the sealed fluid chamber, it will not leak. Who is Kurt? Kurt Manufacturing got its start in the cycling industry when it began manufacturing the trainer frames for the original owners of Cycle-Ops. Cycle-Ops went bankrupt in 1999 and were subsequently bought by Graber. Stuck with a great deal of inventory and tooling and armed with the knowledge about leaking resistance units, Kurt decided to apply its precision manufacturing expertise to build bike trainers. The result was a design so innovative it was awarded a patent for its leak proof fluid resistance unit.

Will your bike fit on the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine bicycle trainer?? Kinetic trainers are compatible with all bikes -- from recumbents, to BMX, to track, to road or mountain bikes they all fit. By doing some simple adjustments, our frame can accommodate any bike.

Our trainers come from the factory set up to fit most road and triathlon wheel sizes (27″, 29″, and 700c). When a smaller wheel is put in other trainers, the bike is often held in an awkward downhill position unless a riser block is used. The legs of our trainer can be placed in three positions. Changing the position of the legs will raise or lower the height of the rear wheel. Leveling the bike in this fashion often eliminates the need for a riser block. The second leg position is engineered for mountain bike wheel and holds the 26″ wheel about 1″ from the floor. The third leg position is engineered for 20″ wheels (406 IBD) which are used on BMX bikes, small wheel recumbent bikes / trikes and Kids bikes.

For wheels with a smaller outside diameter than 22″, it is necessary to use the Small Wheel Adapter (SWA). The SWA moves the resistance unit up 3″ and allows the trainer to fit wheels with an outside diameter as small as 16″.

The other major issue in fitting a bike on a trainer is the quick release skewer or axle bolts on the bike. Skewers come in all shapes and sizes as well as widths. Our unique axle cone fits 99% of OEM skewers on the market, but sometimes it is desirable to get a better fit by using a different cone. Switching a cone is easy and inexpensive. We have cones cup kits available to fit bolt-on wheels like on track and BMX bikes, internally geared hubs, and even SRAM Dual Drive systems.

Our trainer will also accommodate less common dropout widths that are often found on BMX, track, and tandem bikes. With our patented quick release mounting system, switching between bikes with wider or narrower dropouts has never been easier or more stable. Our trainer is approved for use with tandem bikes with 145mm dropouts and both riders mounted. The Kinetic will also securely hold a track bike with dropouts as small as 90 mm.

Using Crank Armstrong, Kurt Engineers can break a competitive trainer in several hours. Feedback from bike dealers confirmed that leaking fluid units are a major issue with " other" trainers. Below is a picture of Crank Armstrong, the newest member of the Kurt Testing Team. Crank is powered by a Dayton 3 HP electric motor, driving through a Boston 10 to 1 gear reducer, and connected to the non-chaining side of the bicycle bottom bracket. In this photo, Crank has a 207-pound "rider" and running at 25 MPH, adding mileage to the test resistance unit and checking the durability of our custom feet. After 96 hours of continuous riding (2297 miles), neither unit nor feet (or Crank) showed any signs of wear.
