Surly's Stainless Steel Chainrings last longer than their aluminum brethern because the 304 grade metal they use is 35% stronger. The rings aren't pinned or ramped so when one side starts to wear you can flip it around and pedal some more! They work great with singlespeed, fixed, and 1x9 applications.

When you're out on a ride the last thing you want is to be limited by your tires in any way. Surly's ExtraTerrestrial tires were designed to let you ride without limits by following a simple tenet for tire design: make 'em high-volume and kick-ass. The ExtraTerrestrial tire was meant to serve as a heavy-duty off road touring tire that shines on hard pack surfaces. It uses a nylon breaker in the sidewalls for cut protection, a molded pattern for anti-cut propagation, and a Kevlar cap under the tread to protect against flats. The ET tire uses a distinctly directional tread pattern and its width yields more traction than you might expect from a tire with such little rolling resistance. The tread is low profile with a file tread in between blocks. The ExtraTerrestrial tire has enough width and traction for the soft stuff and won't bog you down on smooth or hard surfaces. Single chainring drive train setups are all the rage these days. Surly's Junk Straps are basically really long toe straps. They're 120cm woven nylon with a stainless steel buckle. Surly had them made to specification to ensure that they work well and last a long time. They're easy to use and they stay tight. Once you're ready, loosening them is quick and easy. They're light, pack small, and securely and conveniently attach all kinds of stuff to your rack, basket, handlebar, backpack, under your seat, around your thigh…just about anyplace. Hurdy Gurdy is another nifty device that keeps a rear wheel from slipping forward in the dropout under pedal load. It's designed for the Cross-Check's semi-horizontal front-loading dropouts, and will also work on many other similar dropouts. Hurdy Gurdy is investment cast of stainless steel for durability and good looks, and shares many of Tuggnut's design features. Its two axle holes allow for a wide variety of fore/aft wheel positions, it will work with standard QRs, bolted axles, and nutted axles up to 10mm.

The 12mm slotted MDS dropout is the newest chip for Surly's MDS equipped trail frames. You like chips, don't you? The 12mm slotted dropout chip uses a standard derailleur mount for maximum compatibility and is made of cast and machined 6061-T6 aluminum, with a fender eyelet. What's the coolest part about the 12mm slotted MDS chip, you ask? The fact that it also has the capability to run a 12 x 142mm thru-axle in a single speed configuration. This is good news because single speeds are good news. When you get an MDS equipped frame you're getting the option to set it up however you want. You can run a 142 x 12mm thru-axle rear end with a direct mount Shimano hanger, standard 135mm QR or The Mighty Singlespeed. The way this will work is that Surly complete bikes that feature the MDS will ship with whatever chip is compatible with derailleur spec. For instance, the complete Instigator 2.0 ships with the 142 x 12mm thru-axle Shimano chip. If you want to change it to a singlespeed later (and why wouldn't you?), all you have to do is get the SS chip. Frames will ship with all three MDS chips so pick your poison. The 142 x 12mm and 135mm QR chips are made of cast and machined 6061-T6 aluminum and The Mighty Singlespeed chip is 304 stainless steel, because the two words 'aluminum' and 'singlespeed' should never be too close to each other. Bad things can happen…. As you can see, the MDS gives you not just different build options, it lets you use a more varied selection of parts for your frame up builds. The MDS is featured on most of our trail bikes. That's right: Krampus Ops, Karate Monkey Ops, Instigator 2.0 and Ice Cream Truck frames all sport these puppies.

Surly's Dummy Rail Collars are nothing more than a simple clamping device that buttresses the connection between your Big Dummy Frame and the Dummy Rails. They increase the stiffness of the interface of these two parts and help keep your cargo from getting its salad tossed… unless of course your Dummy Bags are filled with tossed salad. These are designed specifically for use with the Big Dummy frame and Dummy rails, and will not work with Xtracycle rails. WARNING: Properly installed Dummy Rail Collars are required for carrying live cargo on your Big Dummy.

Like some of Surly's other chain tensioning devices, Snuggnut keeps your rear wheel from slipping forward in the dropout under the pedal load of your powerful gams. It's specifically designed for bikes that feature 12mm horizontal, vertical-slotted dropouts and is particularly suited for singlespeed application. Snuggnut is CNC-machined for durability and good looks, and shares many design features found on Tuggnut and Hurdy Gurdy. Note: The Snuggnut is compatible with horizontal thru-axle dropouts only. The Tuggnut is made from investment-cast stainless steel and it'll hold your wheel in place. Plus, it comes with an adapter for quick release axles and features an integrated bottle opener.

Surly Front Rack Hardware

Rated fully KICKASS by a very authoritative entity who will remain unnamed, Surly's cast and polished stainless steel clamps won't rust or chip paint because they can't (even the black ones!). They're shiny! They look good! And most importantly, they deliver the clampability seatposts crave.

Whether for derailleur clamp clearance, tire clearance, or personal preference, sometimes it can be advantageous to run the wheel further back in the dropouts. Monkey Nuts install into Surly horizontal dropouts to make spacing the wheel back easy. There are 3 different sets depending on the type of dropout and axle configuration the dropout is intended for. Simply select the correct version of Monkey Nut, install it into the frame, and slam the wheel all the way forward. Bang, done.

Surly Monkey Nuts v3 Dropout Spacers let you keep that rear wheel nice 'n' perpendicular in those horizontal dropouts, no matter how much of a diesel you are. So go ahead, stomp on the pedals and let the rooster tails fly. They're sold individually because most folks only need one on the drive side.
